Overview

Founded in 1869, Chatham University is a coed university with a women's college as its historic heart. Chatham University provides students with a solid education built upon strong academics, public leadership and global understanding. Chatham's 35-acre arboretum campus is located on historic Woodland Road in Pittsburgh's Shadyside neighborhood where students have easy access to Pittsburgh's dynamic career, cultural, and entertainment opportunities and can share in the educational and social offerings of the other nine area colleges and universities.

The University houses three distinctive Colleges: Chatham College for Women houses academic and co-curricular programs for undergraduate women and embodies the traditions and rituals of one of the nation's oldest colleges for women. The College for Graduate Studies offers women and men both masters and doctoral programs. Programs within the College for Graduate Studies include concentrations in art and architecture, business, counseling psychology, health sciences and nursing, teaching, and writing. The College for Continuing and Professional Studies provides online and hybrid undergraduate and graduate degree programs for women and men, certificate programs, and community programming. Chatham offers more than 35 programs of study and its Five-Year Masters program, which allows students to complete both a bachelor's and master's degree in five years. Students may also take course work at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. With an undergraduate student to faculty ratio of 8:1 students experience personalized education and hands-on learning in the classroom. Ninety-four percent of our undergraduate faculty hold terminal degrees in their fields. Chatham also offers over 40 different clubs and organizations including the International Student Association and Model United Nations. We know it is important for each woman to find her place outside of the classroom as well, which includes a dynamic international community both on campus and in the city of Pittsburgh. In addition, Chatham has nine NCAA Division III varsity athletic teams, including basketball, cross country, ice hockey, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, and water polo, , and several club sports, including crew.

Chatham's 35-acre campus is located in a beautiful, safe neighborhood minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, arts and entertainment venues, hiking/biking trails and many other attractions. Chatham's magnificent park-like campus features towering trees, wandering paths and timeless architecture, including century old mansions that now serve as residence halls.
