The Monterey Institute's Intensive English Programs offer English courses for school, business, and everyday life. Whether you are just beginning to learn English or are at an advanced level preparing for higher education or a career, you will find a program that fits your level or you can design your own! Our Intensive English ProgramsThe Intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) program enrolls beginning to high intermediate level ESL students in non-credit classes for success in everyday, personal communication and academic study in the United States. Full time students take 21 instructional hours per week including: Oral Communication, Reading & Writing, Community Research, TOEFL Preparation, and other culture and community-based electives.English for Academic & Professional Purposes (EAPP) Bridge Program offers undergraduate and graduate level academic skills courses designed to help students succeed at an American university. EAPP Bridge course offerings include: Reading Strategies & Vocabulary Development, Academic Research & Writing, Academic Discussion & Presentation, Introduction to Public Speaking, Creative and Professional Writing & Fluency, Active Listening Strategies, and Accuracy in Spoken English. Student LifeThe Monterey Institute provides a safe, friendly community for language and cultural study with its approximately 700 students studying international issues and languages. International students studying English on campus have full access to campus resources including state-of-the-art technology labs, the campus library, and wireless networked classrooms. Many students also actively take advantage of regularly scheduled student activities such as whale watching cruises on the Monterey Bay in the spring and weekend ski trips to Lake Tahoe in the winter.MontereyThe Monterey Institute is located on the beautiful and historic Monterey Peninsula on California's Central Coast.
