The College of General StudiesThe University of Pennsylvania (known informally as Penn) welcomes international students. Penn is a wonderful place to experience American culture. Located in one of America's oldest and largest cities - the home of our country's birth - Penn is consistently ranked among the best universities in the United States.Guest Student ProgramHighly qualified students from abroad take up to one academic year of full-time undergraduate coursework and English language study in Penn's School of Arts and Sciences as non-matriculated undergraduates.Summer SessionsPenn's Summer Sessions provide some of the most comprehensive and academically stimulating credit and non-credit course offerings in the United States. Class sizes are small during the summer months, and most classes are discussion-based. Students have many opportunities to participate in American culture; to study and make friends with academically talented students; and to enjoy the many intellectual, social, and cultural experiences available in Philadelphia.Students take courses with Penn students, earn college credits that can be transferred to other universities, and receive an official transcript from the University of Pennsylvania. International students can take a combination of intensive English and one or two summer session courses through the English Plus (E+) program. Summer High School ProgramsFor the past decade, students from the United States and around the world have had their first taste of college life through summer experiences at the University of Pennsylvania. Students about to start their third or fourth year of secondary school can experience an outstanding academic challenge in an Ivy League environment. The programs, built around courses taught by Penn faculty members, scholars, and distinguished outside experts, include the Science Academy, the Art & Architecture Studios, the Theatre Workshop, and the Pre-College Program.Degree ProgramsBachelor of ArtsAcademically qualified students over the age of 21 fulfill the same degree requirements and earn the same undergraduate degree as full-time residential students.Graduate ProgramsMaster of Applied Positive PsychologyThe MAPP is for psychologists, educators, life coaches, and other professionals interested in the application of a psychology that focuses on the empirical study of positive emotions, strengths-based character, and healthy institutions. The program trains students in the history, theory, and research methods of Positive Psychology and helps them to apply the concepts and techniques in their professional settings.
